QuickBooks and QuickBooks Pro 99 Release Notes
-----------------------------------------------

This file contains important information about problems that
you may encounter when a QuickBooks data file is stored on
a network or remote computer. If you store your QuickBooks
data file on a local drive, you are probably not affected.

It also contains information on how to check your computer
for a math co-processor (also known as a numeric data
processor). QuickBooks requires a math co-processor.

IV. Windows 95 and Windows NT 4 Service Pack information
---------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft periodically updates their operating systems to
correct problems and add new features. These updated releases
are called Service Packs. Because QuickBooks take advantage
of some of the enhancements provided by the Microsoft Service
Packs, we recommend that you use one of these Windows releases:

-> Windows 95
-------------
Windows 95 users should be using Service Pack 1,
version 4.00.950A, or version 4.00.950B.

To determine which version of Windows 95 you are running:

1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2. Choose Properties.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Check your version number.

If your version number is:

4.00.950 We recommend that you install Service Pack 1
4.00.950A Do not install Service Pack 1
4.00.950B Do not install Service Pack 1

To get more information and to download Service Pack 1, go to:
http://www.intuit.com/support/quickbooks/updates/qb6_drvupd1.html

If you don't have Internet access, you can call the
Microsoft Order Desk at 800-360-7561. Ask for Service Pack 1
for Windows 95.

-> Windows NT 4
---------------
Windows NT 4 (Workstation) users should have Service Pack 3
(or later) installed.

If you received a warning about updating to Service Pack 3
during installation, and didn't update before installing
QuickBooks, you need to update your system.

After you've installed QuickBooks, you can get your Service
Pack number by opening QuickBooks and pressing Ctrl+1,
then Ctrl+2. Your Service Pack number displays on the
System Info tab.

To get more information and to download Service Pack 3
(or later), go to:
http://www.intuit.com/support/quickbooks/updates/qb6_drvupd4.html

If you don't have Internet access, you can call the
Microsoft Order Desk at 800-360-7561. Ask for Service
Pack 3 (or later) for Windows NT 4.

-------------------------------------------
V. QuickBooks requires a math co-processor
-------------------------------------------

For QuickBooks to be able to calculate using floating decimal
points, your computer must have a numeric data processor
(also known as a math co-processor). Without it, you will
encounter a fatal exception error each time you enter numeric
data containing decimal points. This problem will also occur
if you have a numeric data processor that has been disabled.

In Windows 95 and Windows 98, do the following to see if you
have a numeric data processor and to make certain that it is
enabled.

>From the Start menu, choose Settings and then choose Control
Panel. Double-click the System icon and then click the
Device Manager tab. Double-click System Devices and select
"Numeric data processor." (If it's not in the list, your
system may not have a numeric data processor and therefore
may cause QuickBooks to malfunction.) With "Numeric data
processor" selected, click Properties and then click the
Settings tab.

If "Always use the numeric data processor" is selected,
you can click Cancel to leave the setting as is. If "Never
use the numeric data processor" is selected, change the
setting so that "Always use the numeric data processor" is
selected. Click OK twice and then click Yes when you're asked
to restart your system.
