Mark aboard his beloved old beat-to-shit Specialized Rockhopper threaded headset hardtail, here ripping the corner at the top of the first hard climb on the Frost Rd spur.

Rode Vedder Ridge from the Frost Rd. Spur with Mark Adriance, starting from his home on the Frost Rd.

We explored the trail we call Piano Drop #1 all the way to the top -- walking and pushing our bikes and clearing as we we went. With Mark's help, I laid out the path for the connector from the new road at the snag just below the summit to the old fire road. It runs through vine maple mostly, and can all be cleared by hand. With luck, I should have it open with an hour of so of work. Perhaps tomorrow...

Approximately 1400 verts.

Mongo aboard his Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC, complete with Manitou Mars Elite fork and moose antler bar ends, here ripping near the top of Piano Drop #1.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
