Bo showing good form on his entirely rigid old Trek hardtail with toe-cage clips on the pedals.

Rode Vedder Ridge from the Frost Rd. Spur with Bo Bumford, starting from his place part way up the Paradise Valley Rd.

We hand cleared the path through the big trees at the top of Piano Drop #1, and then we rode down the whole thing. When we got to the bottom, Bo asked if I wanted to run it gain. That's an easy question! We spun back up the new logging road to the big trees at the top, and then blasted down the Piano Drop again.

The trail is becoming more defined with every passage, but the big maple leaves still hide a lot. I hit something large about half way down (it could have been a rock or a root) and I thought for a second the front wheel was going to dig in, but was able to get over it -- basically by springing straight up into the air, and worrying about the landing later.

Approximately 2200 verts.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
