Enjoyed a tremendous bit of serendipity on Galbraith today. A lone rider passed me just as I was getting my gear out of the van. I passed him a little later at the beginning of the Ridge Trail, and then stopped a little ways above to take his picture. When he pulled over just beyond me, I realized it was my dear old childhood friend, Russ Lambert, who I hadn't seen in about a decade.

What a marvelous coincidence! We rode together for the rest of the day, climbing through the new Family Fun Center, the new trail that paralllels the lower Intestine, the Candy Trails, and finally up to Arsenio via Lower Arsenio A (which was frozen again today, and pretty climable for that reason), before looping around and coming down Arsenio Spur, etc.

Russ was riding the same kind of bike as me (Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC), and although he is faster on the down than I am, we are fairly well matched in ability. Hope this is the first of many rides together...

Approximately 1200 verts.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
