Bruce running slalom through the broken glass and shotgun shells on the first landing above Bo's on Sumas Mt.
Rode Sumas Mt. with Bo in a bit of hurry because I had to take my daughter, Laurel, to her meeting with the counselor in Bellingham.

I parked at Mark's, rode up the Paradise Valley Rd., and picked up Bo at his place. As we climbed on, the mountain above us rang with logging work and rednecks shooting off large firearms. I felt pretty good, but I burned Bo out after barely 1000 verts -- he got a bad cramp in his leg which forced us to turn back.

Approximately 1100 verts.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
