Vedder Ridge, the tip of Red Mt., and the Black Mt behind in the evening sun. The Heady Trails are tucked in between these two ridge lines, in the upper valley.

Rode Red Mt. with Russ Lambert, We climbed to the Cedar Grove, and then came down the steep trail behind, which has almost entirely vanished into the delicate white flowers of the miner's lettuce.

Afterwards, we checked out the Oscar Johnson trail, which was plenty dry, but very rough from heavy horse use. There were no fresh evidence of bikes on the trail, but we made a start toward establishing a bike track.

Got just slightly less than 38,000 verts for the month of June, bringing my total for the year to 213,266 verts climbed.

Approximately 2300 verts.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
