The view from Galbraith toward the Chuckanuts on a misty day.

Big Chuckanut ride with a bunch of the usual suspects. We climbed Burnout (Steve was first and I was second to the top, but I thought the summit was several faces higher and I hadn't even started my final sprint when we hit the summit), and the descended a route that proved very technical in the slime and mud, finally coming out in Arroyo Park.

I was having some trouble with chain suck (the mud was so thick) so I had fallen back to last in line when we came out of Arroyo. Crossing the road, I found the group gathered in a line with their hand folded in mock prayer, chanting "Sensei, show us the way."

Unfortunately, I didn't make it all the way up the stairs this time, like I did last week. This time, I went down in the hairpin corner when my rear wheel spun (perhaps I should have kept my weight farther back, instead of coming forward to the point of the saddle).

Approximately 3200 verts.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
