Fragrance Lake.

Rode the Chuckanuts with Mark, starting on Old Fairhaven Parkway, going out the Interurban, through Arroyo Park, and up the road in Larrabe State Park, all the way to the top of Cleater Rd..

We started down Double Black Diamond, which Mark rode in its entirety -- the first time I've ever seen anyone do that. He said he felt he was riding a nose wheelie all the way down the steepest drop, but he has added riser bars to his bike and a shorter, more erect stem, so he should have optimal downhill performance. He's also dialed the Jekyll's geometry to favor the down much more than I have. I walked both the steep sections, although I think I would have tried to ride them if my leg was good. The conditions were excellent.

We climbed back up to the Fragrance Lake Trail, and finally finished it off with the Two Dollar Trail, before riding back to town on the Interurban.

Approximately 2100 verts.

This is an excerpt from Vert Quest, which chronicles The Man Known As Mongo's pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period.
