"Dream Watcher" by Bruce Brown

Dream Watcher
November 26, 2005

Artist's notes: My digital homage to Vermeer, "Dream Watcher" is about apparent surfaces -- the traditional painterly concerns of line and color and form -- as well as what can not be seen. From an artistic standpoint, I particularly like the painterly treatment of the lower lip, and the lilac line under the left eye, which was the biggest risk in the piece. The Northwest Coast Indian mask depicted in this painting is from the collection of the University of British Columbia Anthropology Museum in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
