A coyote's-eye view of the road down the valley: the South Pass Rd. turns in the distance amid sun-flared Columbia Valley mist...
Rode up to the end of the road on the Frost Rd. spur on Vedder Ridge at dusk, but I didn't have time to explore the old logging road system any more today.
I saw a LOT of coyote tracks in the snow on the road in the low saddle where the horse trail above Lenssen's used to cross the Old Vedder Ridge Trail and start down toward the Sumas Valley floor. There were a few dog tracks too, along with one cloth work glove, which was lying in the middle of the road, frozen stiff and missing three fingers.
The snow revealed there hadn't been any recent traffic down the road, and the nearest human habitation is at least a mile away in any direction. Wonder what the story with the glove is? A coyote "counting coup" (as the plains Indians did for every enemy they touched)? A dog's offering to the wild moon? Or...?
Approximately 900 verts.
