Yet more serendipity on the mountain on my first day on my new bike. Rode Galbraith with Mark Adriance, and met Mark Belles and his wife Missy at the trailhead as we were starting out.

We rode up the Ridge Trail, Family Fun Center, Appendix, and then up the Candies all the way to the end, at which point we continued on  the somewhat mucky ORV way until we came to single track again, and climbed to the right up to the Arsenio Loop Rd.

Love the Cannondale Jekyll 900 SX. It is somewhat slower on the climbs than my the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC (it felt really heavy at the outset), but more than compensates on the descents. The rear suspension isn't quite as good as the FSR XC, but its bottom bracket is significantly higher, and this translates into a noticably more efficient ride on Galbraith.

And the Lefty! When we got to the bottom of Supercross, I walked back up the trail a few dozen yards to look at the last drop I went off. It was at least a two foot straight drop off a rock ledge onto very steep scree slope. There was no way I would have gone off that on the FSR XC, but on the Jekyll it was "no --  big -- deal."

Approximately 2100 verts.

Vert Quest chronicles "The Man Known As Mongo's" pursuit of the World Record for climbing on a mountain bike, 404,000 vertical feet, or the vertical equivalent of 13 sea-level-to-summit ascents of Mt. Everest during a 12 month period. Mongo's mountain bike climbing tricks are distilled in Mongo's Over-the-top Guide to Climbing.
