Rode with mountain biking newbie John Frey on Vedder Ridge in the morning, and then again with Mark and Alex Adriance in the evening. John rode my Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC. He nearly made it to the top of the first climb, did make it to the top of the climb to the first pass, and then nearly made it to the top of the climb to the quarry. A moment or two later when he got to the quarry, I could see by the look in his eyes that he was hooked.
Mark and Alex and I spent some time practicing the double log drop at the top of the
Piano Drop. I went first, and cleared the first drop fine, but I dropped my front wheel
into a deep hole on the bottom side of the second and went over the bars.
After a fair amount of experimentation, we discovered that the way to get over the
second log is to stay way to the left, and keep your speed slow. Otherwise, you'll get
sucked (or bounced) into the deep hole on the right, which looks so inviting since that's
where the log is lowest.
Mental note: must get the Lefty set stiffer, and must get the rear delrailier on my Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC fixed (it's slipping on the biggest to cogs in the back).
Approximately 2100 verts.
