Russ riding over a rock at the top of the Intestine in the dark.
Please note his lights are no where near as bright as his glow-in-the-dark Magura brakes.
Rode Galbraith Mt. at night with Russ Lambert. It rained on the drive in from Sumas, but we didn't get a drop on the the mountain.
As Russ mentioned on the phone, there is a new lower Ridge Trail Extension that eliminates most of the ride on the road off Birch. It's soft and loamy (like most new trails) but winds around pleasantly and has a couple tight surprises.
We rode the usual way up to Arsenio, and then looped around a bunch. I rode the Little
Big Trail twice and had no problem with the second log drop -- I just kept my hands off
the brakes and let the bike drop under me by pushing it forward and getting my weight way
back just as I rolled over the drop. This is the same move I use when I'm coming fast into
a mud or sand hole -- I push the bike way forward with my arms and get my weight back.
The highlight of the ride for me was probably coming down a very nice trail that I've
ridden by dozens of times, but never tried. It comes down from the end of the spur road
below where the Arsenio Trails hit the Loop Road/Mainline. It terminates just above the
Intestine on the eroded connector.
Russ said that the trail down from the next logging road down the Mainline (where
Purple Heart comes out) is called Lincoln Logs. This comes down just south of the upper
end of the Intestine.
Approximately 1100 verts, which gives me 31,303 vertical feet climbed for the month, and 135,382 for the year so far.
