Russ near where Crazy 8s and 911 fork on the edge of the woods.
Another double ride day! Rode Galbraith with Mark Belles in the morning, and then again in the evening with Russ Lambert.
Mark and I explored the new trail Steve showed me that drops down to the Supercross Rd, which we ripped. I got it all but the biggest log drop, which Mark made but I wanted to study a little more. Afterwards, we worked our way down to 911. Mark began by riding an outrageous rock / root combo off to the side at the top but I stayed on the trail, and was thrilled to make the whole thing without putting a foot down even though I detoured around the long log.
After a a couple hours nap at my new Whatcom Falls Park office, I rode again in the evening with Russ, this time on my Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC instead of my Cannondale Jekyll. Along the way, we encountered a contingent from Fairhaven Bike, including Herb Hogan, Thad Quinn, Jimmy Straatman and his friend John (who wasn't wearing much more than tatoos and piercings).
My shining moment came on the road near the car seat where I out-climbed them all up the steep pitch. In the woods on the trail off the V Trail that I rode earlier in the day with Mark, though, I found the FSR's low bottom bracket was grinding on the log drops. I was hurled to the side on the biggest, and so I had a good vantage point on the ground to watch Thad take it. Turned out bottom bracket height wasn't a problem for him on his Manitou -- he jumped it clean. When I asked him about this, he said, "yea I just bunny hopped it." Later we rode 911, again for the second time that day for me. Again I found the FSR's low bottom bracket was a problem -- I endoed off the last big drop, which I'd had no problem at all with on the Jekyll.
Approximately 3800 combined verts.
