Bruce riding the catwalk on Dan's Trail.
Rode Galbraith with Mark on a gorgeous day. We met at the same time and place as we'd planned the day before, when I had to cancel because of the injury to Laurel's arm.
Night before last, Lane and I had what we hoped would be a relaxing dinner at a friend's house in Everson, while Laurel and Shanna stayed home in Sumas. But before we could get through the meal, Laurel and Shanna got into a fight over Ron, a neighbor boy who is interested in Laurel, and Laurel put her arm through the back door window, requiring an ambulance trip to the Emergency Room at St. Joseph's Hospital and a dozen stitches.
So instead of moving, riding, etc. yesterday, I spent the day taking care of Laurel, who was clearly in a lot of pain. Mark Belles stopped by in the late morning and gently took a look at her arm. From his marvelously calm and attentive manner, I could see how he must be when he's X-raying people at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he works three days a week on a mountain biker's dream schedule.
Laurel tried to go back to school again today, so Mark and I rode up Wonderland and then down the Tower Trail, which was all a lot of fun -- very technical and a little slimy. Next came Dirty Sock, and then we made the mistake of taking the old spur off Keystone. This lead to a clearcut, where we wandered through brambles, thistle, fire weed and young fir for over an hour before finding the Keystone Road.
After this we ripped Dan's and the Flying Squirrel, and ran back to Arsenio, the Intestine, and on down the Ridge Trail.
Approximately 2140 verts. This takes me over 300,000 verts for the year. Last year, I
went over 300,000 verts on December 18, the last day of the year
I rode -- we took off for Hawaii the next day.
