THE DETAIL ABOVE from the Spotted Tail / Yellow Nose Ledger Book shows Yellow Nose at the Battle of the Little Bighorn counting coup on an American trooper with a Seventh Cavalry guidon he captured. Slick move! Here are eye-witness descriptions of this famous scene by Cheyenne warrior White Shield and Sioux warrior White Cow Bull. Interesting how Pablo Picasso's depiction of the agony of horses in war in his famous painting "Guernica" (below) echoes Spotted Wolf / Yellow Nose's treatment of the same subject a half a century before. -- B.B.
